Birth in Awareness
A doula serves to raise your awareness and empower you to fully trust in yourself during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum transition. The journey into parenthood is one that presents uncertainties that require flexibility, trust and dedication right from the beginning. Surrounding ourselves with a birth team to look to who will help reassure and guide us on the path is such a relief. I hope I can be that relief and an encouraging, empowering mentor for the parents who choose me to be their birth doula.
After our first official meeting, I will email you my notes including everything we talked about in order for you to have a guideline for creating a birth plan including any or all of the following physical, emotional and spiritual nourishment and pain-coping options I can provide you (and assist your partner) with:
Early Labour:
-Hydrotherapy, a warm relaxing bath with essential oils is a great place to start if you can't sleep through contractions!
-Baking a "Groaning" / Birthday cake, filled with perfect postpartum nourishment and herbs to promote lactation and it's super delish!
-Tens machine, specific for labour. http://www.tenscanada.com/freemom-tens/
--I supply the machine, you just need to order your own pads from their website^
-Walking/ Lunging/ Dancing to progress labour and/or shift baby's position
(^some of these things will also be beneficial to continue throughout^)
Active Labour through to Delivery of your baby:
-Aromatherapy specific for labour.
-Acupressure (I will give you an acupressure for labour booklet for your partner to study, and I can remind them/model what is useful in the right moments) I also have combs in my doula bag for your to squeeze in your hands and activate the palm points yourself :)
-Massage, I can show your partner what might be most appropriate in the moment, and it's great to have us each getting one side in unison at times.
